Des Plaines Mayor Bogusz, wife welcome first child

Des Plaines Mayor Matt Bogusz and his wife, Kate, got an early Christmas present when she gave birth to the couple's first child Dec. 22.

Jacqueline Pascale Bogusz weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 20 inches when she was born.

At the Jan. 3 city council meeting, Bogusz proposed a resolution naming May as Mother's Month because one day is not enough, he said. Fathers would still just get a day in June, he said.

"Mothers get a month and dads get a day," Bogusz said. "That seems fair."

The new father and mayor had one other request for a city council members known to hold long, sometimes contentious meetings.

"This is my first bedtime that I am missing in 12 days, so make this one quick," Bogusz quipped.
