St. Emily School to Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

Mt. Prospect, IL, January 5, 2017 - St. Emily School students and faculty are preparing to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The events begin Sunday, Jan. 29, and continues through Friday, Feb. 3.

St. Emily School will host an Open House from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, and welcomes anyone from the community who would like to learn about the school, tour the school and meet the teachers. Many currently enrolled families will attend the 9:30 a.m. Family Mass at St. Emily Church, and visit the school at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a Book Fair held in the school gym during the Open House.

Additional events throughout Catholic Schools Week will include Spirit Day, 8th Grade vs. Faculty volleyball, Teacher and Student Appreciation Days and Special Person's Day.

As a service project, students will make and donate blankets for those in need. On World Mission Day, Feb. 1, students will gather to pray the rosary. Students are asked to bring only soup for lunch on Feb. 1, to understand the small meals that children who are hungry, might eat. Dubbed "Souper Bowl Day", students will also bring in cans of soup to donate to a food pantry.

The week will end with the annual Fun Fair on Friday, Feb. 3. Students will enjoy games and special treats, and may even put a teacher in "St. Emily's Jail."

Catholic Schools Week brings awareness that Catholic schools are an added value for the community. Because of their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by strong moral values, Catholic schools and their graduates make positive contributions to American society.

As a Blue Ribbon School, St. Emily is proud to provide an outstanding education. For information, or to request an enrollment application, contact the school at 847-296-3490.
