Elgin man sentenced for weapons violation

A 27-year-old Elgin man was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a weapons charge.

Deondrae Clements, who pleaded guilty Thursday, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in April following a report of eight to 10 shots fired in the 500 block of Aller Avenue in Elgin. Police encountered Clements at the scene, prosecutors said. They recovered from his car a handgun that authorities say had been reported stolen from Schaumburg.

Clements told police he found the gun in his car, according to prosecutors.

He was also ordered to pay $714 in fines.
