Fires damage two Palatine homes

The Palatine Fire Department battled two house fires Wednesday night that damaged separate homes, but resulted in no injuries, officials said.

The first fire started about 5:41 p.m. in the kitchen of a home in the 400 block of North MacArthur Drive, fire officials said. The homeowner called 9-1-1 and said there was a fire on the stovetop extending to the kitchen cabinets.

Firefighters entered the home with a dry chemical fire extinguisher and attacked the fire on the stove and surrounding cabinets while other firefighters pulled a hose line to assist. The fire was declared under control at 5:50 p.m.

The second fire started in the laundry room of a two-story townhouse in the 1100 block of South Parkside Drive. Firefighters put it out with a dry chemical fire extinguisher and it was declared under control at 10:54 p.m.

Damage estimates were not available for either fire, officials said.

The kitchen fire was fought by 18 firefighters, staffing three engines, two ladder trucks and two ambulances, which responded to the scene along with one command officer and one fire investigator.

The dryer fire was fought by 23 firefighters, staffing three engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances, which responded to the scene along with one command officer and one fire investigator.
