St. Martin's to host Blue Christmas service

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 1095 Thacker St., in Des Plaines will host Blue Christmas: A Service of Darkness and Light.

For many, this time of year is joyous. But, for some, it can be the hardest time of year and is something to be endured. St. Martin's Episcopal Church believes it is important to respect the fact that not everyone will have a happy holiday, perhaps due to life circumstances or the recent loss of a loved one.

Blue Christmas: A Service of Darkness and Light will be a church service that honors and recognizes that reality and provides space and time for reflection on the fact that it doesn't always feel like God is present.

This special service serves as a reminder that God is always with us, even (and perhaps especially) in the darkness.

"I pray that this service provides a time and place for those wandering to find solace in the loving arms of God," said St. Martin's Rev. M.E. Eccles.
