Batavia swears in new 3rd Ward alderman

Elliot Meitzler is Batavia's new 3rd Ward alderman.

He was the only applicant for the job, and was appointed and sworn in Monday night after a brief interview with the city council.

Meitzler fills the post vacated last month by Kyle Hohmann, who moved out of the ward. Meitzler lives on Nary Court.

Meitzler is senior product manager of the cable division for Strat Marketing Inc., according to the resume he submitted. He has certification in project management.

He and his wife have five children and have lived in Batavia almost four years.

"Through volunteer coaching with BYF (Batavia Youth Football), assisting with the WatchDOGS program at H.C. Storm Elementary School, taking my daughters to see 'The Nutcracker' at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre, or even just frequenting the local shops and restaurants, we've quickly come to love calling Batavia home. I want to serve to the best of my ability so that Batavia can continue its strong sense of community and responsibility," Meitzler wrote in his application.

His term expires in April and Meitzler said he intends to run for a four-year term.
