Hossa, Darling lead Blackhawks to easy win over Coyotes

What do a 1-foot putt and a date with the Arizona Coyotes have in common?

They should both be gimmes, of course.

Well, the Blackhawks had no problem "tapping in" a 4-0 victory over Arizona at the United Center on Tuesday, getting 2 goals from Marian Hossa and 1 each from Artem Anisimov and Dennis Rasmussen.

It was the 12th time in 13 games the Hawks earned at least a point against the Coyotes.

Not that they were taking them lightly.

"No. Every team in this league is good," said Scott Darling, who made 21 saves and recorded the third shutout of his career. "They have tons of talented players. Any team we take lightly is going to make us look stupid."

One concern for the Hawks might be the health of Brent Seabrook as the veteran defenseman hit the ice hard and stayed down for about 20-30 seconds after a big second-period hit by Jordin Martinook. Seabrook, who did not return, suffered an upper-body injury on the play.

"We'll see how he is tomorrow," coach Joel Quenneville said.

The Hawks (17-8-3) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Anisimov at 15:37 of the first period, then scored twice in 19 seconds on tallies from Hossa and Rasmussen at 6:25 and 6:46 of the second.

Hossa now has 14 goals - 1 more than all of last season - and 513 in his career, which ties him with Jeremy Roenick for 38th all-time.

"This year, I feel like more recharged and when the puck's going in you feel more confident," said Hossa, whose second goal came with 3:16 left in the game. "But I try not to be just a goal-scorer. I just try to play both ways and even if I don't score in a bunch of games, I try to make some plays for the team."

Darling improved to 5-2-1 in what had to be one of the easiest victories of his young career as Arizona (8-13-4) failed to put a shot on net for the first 14 minutes of the third period.

"That's the way you want to play," Darling said. "I can't remember one … Grade A chance we gave up. The guys were great, the 'D' were great, the forwards were great on defense. That was nice for me." Darling kept Arizona off the board by making 2 saves in the final five seconds, improving his save percentage to .919.

"I don't get a lot of shutouts, so I was pretty excited," he said. "It feels good, but especially that one. That was a team shutout."

Up next for the Hawks is a big test on Friday against the 17-9-1 New York Rangers, a squad that averages a league-best 3.6 goals per game.
