Elgin crash victim identified as Glendale Heights man

A man who died Saturday morning after a fiery crash in Elgin was identified by police as Rudy Guerra of Glendale Heights.

Guerra was 32 years old, contrary to initial reports, Elgin Police Cmdr. Al Young said Monday.

Guerra was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck east on Route 20 west of State Street when he veered off the road and hit the tree. Officers were called about 9:30 a.m. to the scene and the vehicle already was on fire, Young said.

Guerra was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Kane County Coroner's office said a preliminary autopsy determined the cause of death was multiple injuries. A toxicology analysis is pending.
