Be careful when draining the swamp

Dear Donald: You promised to "drain the swamp," but in a few months you will be living in it yourself. Be cautious.

Already you have met three of the swamp creatures. With the largest of them, a sly, toothy president nearing the end of his term, you will be wise not to consort or keep counsel. The other two, a prehistoric senator and a congressman with shiny scales, you must keep at arm's length.

The smaller and less consequential of the swamp creatures will gnash their teeth at you, but they are mere distractions. The ones you must be wary of are those that beguile with their svelte tentacles and moony eyes with dollar signs for pupils. These are your enemies.

Compared to reforming Washington D.C., sweeping the Aegean stables was a Saturday-morning household chore. Remember, you are not God, and you don't have to save the world. You have wealth and fame, and now great power also. Use that very power to diminish the sway of the swamp creatures. Do what you promised - curb and reduce illegal immigration; appoint a conservative justice to the Supreme Court; gut Obamacare; release the genius and creativity of the American economy by yanking government out of its way; and subdue the terrorists.

Accomplish these, and we will, in your honor, crown the four heads on Mount Rushmore with huge, orange toupees.

With your patriotic slogan, you shielded yourself from the slings and arrows of the media. You wrestled with the Never-Trumpers even as you raced Hillary to the finish-line. You prevailed over the pundits and pontificators. Drain the swamp, or bury it beneath the fill and rubble accumulated from building the southern wall.
