Illinois Wesleyan Voice Student to Advance to National Competition

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-Itasca native and Illinois Wesleyan University vocal performance major Crystal Muro is eligible to compete in a national vocal competition as a result of her second-place finish at the recent Central Region National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition.

At Illinois Wesleyan, Muro is an active member and secretary of the Collegiate Choir. Students in the 50-voice Collegiate Choir are selected by audition and maintain a rigorous rehearsal schedule in preparation for their concert tours and other engagements throughout the year. Muro is also the Choral department librarian, and treasurer of Student NATS, a student chapter of NATS. She has also participated in Illinois Wesleyan's Opera Theatre, New Music concerts, as well as Consort Early Music ensembles, which are student-led ensembles.

A recipient of the Fine Arts Alumni Scholarship, Muro embraces the relationships she has created with faculty and students in the School of Music, as well as Illinois Wesleyan's positive and challenging atmosphere. In addition to her experiences at Illinois Wesleyan, she is a choral intern at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington.

Muro is a 2015 graduate of Lake Park High School in Roselle. She received a first place in her category at the NATS competition during her senior year of high school.
