Advent at the Abbey offers quiet reflection

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays, members of the public are invited to prepare for the Nativity of Jesus at "Advent at the Abbey" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Procopius Abbey, 5601 College Road, Lisle.

The event's speakers are Fr. Becket Franks of St. Procopius Abbey and Christine Fletcher, associate professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Benedictine University.

The theme of the day is based on Psalm 80 and the belief that divine presence is everywhere and the eyes of the Lord gaze everywhere on the good and the bad. Advent is a time where followers of the Catholic faith become introspective and prepare for the Nativity of Jesus Christ.

The schedule includes arrival and coffee at 9 a.m., Lauds at 9:30 a.m., Lecto Divina at 10 a.m., the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 11 a.m., Eucharist at noon, lunch at 12:30 p.m., a presentation at 1:30 p.m., and a closing prayer and blessing at 2:30 p.m.

Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. For information or to reserve a place, contact Franks at (630) 829-9253 or bfranks@procopius.org, or Christine Fletcher at cfletcher@ben.edu.
