Autopsy on Fox Lake woman inconclusive

An autopsy on a Fox Lake woman found dead near Nippersink Lake over the weekend has come back inconclusive, coroner's officials said on Monday.

Mary Anton, 57, was reported missing by her son Friday evening after he went to her home and discovered that she and her dog were not there, Fox Lake police said. Neighbors told police they last saw her at home about noon Friday.

On Saturday, police were called to Nippersink Lake about 2:45 p.m. for a report of a dead dog in the lake near the 200 block of Leisure Drive. An officer checking the shoreline discovered Anton's body.

The autopsy Monday did not show any signs of foul play, coroner's officials said. An official cause of death is pending toxicology and further tests, Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said.

Fox Lake Police Chief Russell Laine said the investigation is ongoing and that police believe the death will eventually be determined as accidental or suicide.

Police ask anyone who may have information about Anton's death to call them at (847) 587-3100. Police have said her death is an isolated case and there is no threat to the community.
