The Buckinghams to perform for Elk Grove tree lighting

To celebrate Elk Grove Village's 60th anniversary, the town has arranged a performance by The Buckinghams as part of its 19th annual Holiday Tree Lighting on the Village Green.

Following the performance at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, The Buckinghams will join Mayor Craig Johnson in throwing the switch to light the tree and turn on more than 250,000 lights around the municipal complex, Elk Grove Public Library and Elk Grove Park District Pavilion.

A special fireworks display will follow the tree lighting, announcing the entrance of Santa and his elves. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided.

The development firm Hamilton Partners is sponsoring the event, the Nielson family donated the 30-foot Colorado blue spruce. The Leo Club (ages 11-18) is helping Santa as "volunteer elves" and by passing out glow sticks and the Lioness Club members also are volunteering time and services to support the event.

The Village Green is located behind the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Complex at Biesterfield Road and Wellington Avenue.

For more information, call the mayor's office at (847) 357-4030.
