Barrington student hosts bone marrow registry drive

Carter Bailey, his family and LifeSource will host the Carter Strong Blood & Bone Marrow Registry Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, 22222 N. Pepper Road, Lake Barrington.

Carter Bailey, a 21-year-old sophomore at Indiana University home for Thanksgiving break, learned when a senior at Barrington High School in 2014 that he had acute myeloid leukemia. He missed what would have been his freshman year in college as he underwent several chemotherapy treatments, followed by a bone marrow match and eventual transplant that proved successful.

Carter Bailey wants others have the same chance of receiving a life saving match that he did. He is active in Indiana's "Be the Match on Campus" program, which strives to recruit students into the National Bone Marrow Registry.
