Mount Prospect puts up donated holiday tree

Work crews from Homer Tree Care and the Mount Prospect public works department Thursday moved a Colorado blue spruce from the 300 block of Pine Street to in front of village hall in preparation for the village's sixth annual tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23.

The 40-foot-tall tree was donated by Nelson and Nora Kraemer. It will be decorated with more than 5,000 lights on Friday.

At the tree-lighting at Busse Avenue and Ill. 83, the Madrigal Singers of Prospect High School will perform holiday songs and the Mount Prospect Lions Club will serve hot cocoa and cookies. The fifth annual Christkindlmarket will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. in village hall's Community Room, offering unique holiday gifts.

"The tree-lighting is the perfect way to kick off the holidays," said Mayor Arlene Juracek in a news release. "As a tribute to our upcoming centennial, purple lights adorn downtown and the entire community."

Additional holiday events and information on deals being offered at Small Business Saturday, Nov. 26, are at experiencemountprospect.org.
