Carpentersville man sentenced to 12 years for ninth DUI

A Carpentersville man pleaded guilty to his ninth DUI Thursday and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Alfredo Sanchez, 32, received credit for the 55 days he has spent in custody since his arrest on Sept. 23 near Higgins Road and Mall Drive in Schaumburg. He was also ordered to pay $1,884 in fines, court records show.

Sanchez was on parole for his eighth DUI at the time, according to prosecutors.

Police found Sanchez sitting in his car parked on the shoulder with its hazard lights on. When officers asked for his driver's license, prosecutors said, Sanchez gave them his Illinois identification card and sped off at more than 65 mph. Elk Grove Village police located him a short time later after Schaumburg police issued a description of his car.

Sanchez's arrests date back to 2000 and 2002, when he was arrested on charges of misdemeanor DUI. He received his first felony DUI arrest in 2004 in Kane County. While that case was pending, he picked up his fourth and fifth DUIs in Kane County and a sixth in Cook County. Sanchez was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison for the Kane offenses and two years in prison for the Cook charge.

In January 2008, Sanchez received his seventh DUI, which was followed in June 2008 by his eighth DUI. He was sentenced to eight and six years, respectively, for those crimes.
