62-year-old Hanover Park man charged with sexual abuse

A 62-year-old Hanover Park man was ordered held on $750,000 bail Wednesday on charges he sexually molested a young girl.

Victor Rodriguez is charged with predatory criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez abused the girl sometime between Aug, 10, 2013, and June 30, 2014, in Hoffman Estates when she was in the care of a baby sitter.

Cook County assistant state's attorney Maureen McGee said the baby sitter went to the store with several children in her care, but left the girl, then 8 or 9, at home with Rodriguez.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez molested the girl and attempted to kiss her. She ran from him and locked herself in the bathroom until the baby sitter returned, McGee said.

The girl initially told a relative. In October 2016, after a sexual abuse awareness presentation at her school, the girl told a teacher, McGee said.

Rodriguez has no criminal background. He next appears in court on Dec. 8.
