Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration set for Sunday in Buffalo Grove

Worshippers from several faiths and congregations will gather in Buffalo Grove on Sunday for the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council's 26th annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Saint Mary Parish, 10 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. The celebration is open to all community members, regardless of affiliation. Attendees are encouraged to bring food donations to stock the four food pantries supported by the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council.

The celebration has become a tradition among suburban faith community members. This year, Bishop Wayne N. Miller, president of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago, will be the guest speaker. He is bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, and was senior pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Aurora from 1994 to 2007.

Faith community members of the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council include: Congregation Beth Judea, Hope Lutheran Church and Temple Chai of Long Grove; Congregation B'nai Shalom, Congregation Beth Am, Kingswood United Methodist Church and Saint Mary Parish of Buffalo Grove; Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Synagogue of Wheeling; Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish of Prospect Heights; and St. Viator High School of Arlington Heights.
