Elk Grove VFW raffling Chevy Corvette to raise funds

Castle Chevrolet is announcing at the Elk Grove Village VFW Post 9284 Veterans Day ceremony that it will donate a 2017 Corvette to be raffled off in support of local veterans, the village announced Thursday in a news release.

The ceremony is at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the VFW Hall, 400 E. Devon Ave. Proceeds from the raffle will help fund the construction of an elevator at the hall, which is used to host weekly dinners and serves as a gathering place for veterans in the community.

Post Cmdr. Terry Tomaso welcomed the donation.

"Our VFW Post is over 40 years old, and our membership is becoming a little older, we really feel the lack of what are now basic accommodations such as an elevator," he said in the news release. "We are grateful for the generosity of Castle Chevrolet and the support of the Community Character Coalition in helping us raise funds to ensure we can continue to support the participation of all our veterans."

The Community Character Coalition will administer the raffle. Tickets will be sold at $10 each, or three for $20. The winner will be announced at the village's final summer concert July 25. More information is available at http://ccceg.org.

"This project really speaks to our core values of Caring and Citizenship, and gives us a chance to give back to those who have served our country," said CCC member Kitty Weiner, who first proposed the idea of raising funds to help the VFW.
