Glenbard North premiers family drama "Smokefall"

For its fall theater production, Glenbard North High School presents "Smokefall," a family drama in which magical realism collides with vaudeville.

In Noah Haidle's "Smokefall," fetuses swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, a daughter eats dirt and doesn't speak, a father is about to drive away and never return, and there's an apple tree growing through the walls of the house.

Whipping from tenderness to humor and back, "Smokefall" explores the lives of a family in a lyrical treatise on the fragility of life and the power of love.

"Smokefall" will make its high school premier at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 17 to 19, at Glenbard North High School, 990 N. Kuhn Road, Carol Stream. Tickets are $8 and may be reserved by calling (630) 681-3399. Tickets also will be available at the door.

The cast includes Mia Silva as Violet, Eric Norman as Daniel/Fetus One, Andrew Brejla as Footnote/Fetus Two/Samuel, Brandon Luna as Colonel/Johnny, and Pooja Chafekar as Beauty.

Nathan King is the director; David Barone is technical director; Arielle Valene is associate technical director; and Robyn Scurek is associate drama director.
