Arlington Lakes honored for renovations

The American Society of Golf Course Architects has named Arlington Lakes Golf Club in Arlington Heights among the honorees for its fifth annual Design Excellence Recognition Program.

The program recognizes golf course operators for their work with ASGCA members to address unique design challenges.

Arlington Lakes reopened in July after being closed for 13 months during $2.4-million renovation project that brought significant changes to the 36-year-old facility, including nine new greens, all new tees, granite signs indicating the structure of each hole and 9,370 linear feet of a continuous cart path.

The changes, designed by golf course architect Michael Benkusky, also allow for golfers to chose 3- and 6-hole options, instead of only the traditional 9 and 18 holes.
