Warrenville voters open to considering future tax increase to develop park

Warrenville voters say they will consider a future tax increase proposal if it means turning the former Musselman property into a park.

According to unofficial results, residents supported the nonbinding referendum question 64 percent to 36 percent with all 16 precincts reporting.

Currently the Warrenville Park District does not have funding to purchase and develop the Civic Center Redevelopment Site #1, also known as the former Musselman Property, into a park. A future tax increase would need to be considered.

The site, located at 28W715 Mount St., is about four acres of land just southwest of the Warrenville Public Library.

The city of Warrenville purchased the land in 2007 for $2.2 million, City officials say they are committed to finding a residential developer to purchase the property.
