A new idea for Central Road crossing

Like many who travel Central Road, I find the "new" pedestrian crossing by Melas Park confusing at best, dangerous at worst. While driving my daughter to the train this morning, she suggested a fix that I believe would address all the concerns I have read or heard expressed in the recent past.

Her fix? Install a signal like the one that has been in use for many years on Arlington Heights Road for St. James School. It remains green until a pedestrian activates the button controlled signal, it then goes to yellow, then to red.

Drivers, bikers and pedestrians all know what to do without any retraining or "thinking" about what they should do. Will it cost more money? I'm sure it will. Would it accomplish what I think all drivers, bikers and pedestrians wish to take place at this tragic location? I think it would!
