Streamwood driver charged with firing weapon at another vehicle

A 27-year-old Streamwood man was ordered held on $250,000 bail Thursday after authorities say he fired from his car into another vehicle described as a white work van.

According to a witness, Marco Rojas, whom authorities identify as a gang member, was driving a white Audi SUV erratically on Sutton Road near Schaumburg Road on Oct. 28, prosecutors said.

The witness saw Rojas, wearing a red hoodie, lean from the vehicle and fire two or three shots from a revolver into the van, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom.

Rojas turned east on Schaumburg Road, while the van turned west, according to the witness, who identified Rojas in a photo lineup, Grissom said.

Video surveillance showed the shooting occurred within 1,000 feet of Streamwood High School.

According to Grissom, Rojas was involved in a crash Tuesday while driving the Audi. Police recovered a red hoodie from the SUV.

Rojas, who has one felony conviction on drug-related charges and five misdemeanors, face up to 30 years in prison if convicted. He next appears in court on Nov. 28.
