Two men face charges over Schaumburg tire slashings

Two men are facing misdemeanor charges in connection with the slashing of about 30 vehicles' tires outside of two office buildings near Woodfield Mall Wednesday morning, a Schaumburg police spokeswoman said.

Jacob Gats, 20, of Schaumburg is charged with 27 counts of criminal damage to motor vehicles, and Kamil Filipiec, 20, who currently is homeless and was staying with Gats, is charged with two counts of criminal damage to motor vehicles. Both men were expected to post bond Wednesday evening, Schaumburg Police Sgt. Christy Lindhurst said.

Lindhurst said several calls were received at about 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Schaumburg Corporate Center at 1501 Woodfield Road and another nearby office building at 1699 Woodfield Road.

At the Schaumburg Corporate Center, 26 vehicles with slashed tires were ultimately reported. There were four more at the other building at 1699 Woodfield Road, two of which also had broken windows.

No items have been reported missing from the affected vehicles, Lindhurst said.
