Trick-or-treaters visit downtown Wheaton businesses

Trick-or-treaters had a chance to show off their costumes and get some free treats from local businesses during the Downtown Wheaton Association's annual Boo-Palooza event Saturday.

The event kicked off with a costume contest at Martin Memorial Plaza on Front Street, where prizes were awarded for several costume categories.

Kids then had a chance to visit nearly every downtown Wheaton merchant to pick up some festive treats.

Organizers say they keep hosting the event year after year because it gives children a chance to enjoy some Halloween fun in a safe and welcoming environment.

The Downtown Wheaton Association tried to launch a Halloween event for adults this year called Witches of Wheaton, but had to cancel it due to insufficient advanced ticket sales.
