Vote 'yes' to help Dist. 15 remain strong

On Nov. 8, I ask you to vote yes for the Palatine School District 15 referendum giving the district permission to borrow $130 million to purchase land and build two new school buildings.

This is not a new idea. For those who think this idea of building new schools moved too fast, you need to look at past history of District 15. While I was the routing coordinator for School District 15, there was a lot of discussion about building a school for the northeast area.

Over the past 30 years, the children in the northeast have been sent to schools far from their homes. The district sends buses into the area, in the evenings, to take parents to activities at the schools their children attended.

If children are ill at school, they needed to stay at school because Mom or Dad have no way to pick them up. When the district purchased the land on Ela Road over 15 years ago, it was purchased with the intention of building another junior high. The children that attend Thomas Jefferson and Frank Whitley are transported to Rolling Meadows for junior high again making it hard for parents to be involved with activities at the school.

School District 15 is a great place for children to learn and grow. In the district's 75-year history, it has grown because of forward-thinking leaders. Many young adults, because of the wonderful education they received as children, they are now buying homes and moving back in the district so their children can have the same experiences they had.

Remember the district is made up of 20 schools and around 12,000 students, this referendum will improve the lives of all the children by decreasing overcrowding, eliminate students in mobile classrooms, shortening bus rides and realigning school boundaries.
