Beyond the Medications: Taking Control of Parkinson's
Those with Parkinson's, their family members and caregivers are welcome to attend a free program by the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) that explores alternative approaches for managing Parkinson's disease and maintaining good health. "Beyond the Medications: Taking Control of Parkinson's," is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at Windsor Park retirement community, 124 Windsor Park Dr., Carol Stream. Danny Bega, MD, MSCI, will discuss alternative approaches to treating the disease outside of medication, such as nutrition, mindfulness, and exercise to improve overall health. Following a luncheon and a Q&A session with Bega, two movement experts will explain Neuromuscular Integrative Action (NIA), a holistic fitness practice that combines dance, martial arts and mindfulness to tone one's body while transforming the mind. Myrna Weinman, G.L.C.M.A., a Somatic Movement Educator, Laban Movement Analyst, and NIA Black Belt level instructor and Lisa L. Rude, M.A/CCCSLP, Speech/Language therapist will present and demonstrate.
Bega is assistant professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and fellowship trained, board-certified, movement disorders neurologist at Northwestern University's Parkinson's Disease & Movement Disorders Center. He has completed medical school at Rush University and clinical training in neurology at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women's Hospital. He has expertise in the care and management of patients with a variety of movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, and is the director of the Northwestern Huntington's disease and Wilson's disease clinics.
