Vernon Hills man identified as motorcyclist killed in Buffalo Grove crash

A 29-year-old motorcyclist from Vernon Hills died Sunday after a two-vehicle crash in Buffalo Grove, officials said.

The accident, which involved a motorcycle and a car, occurred about 1:20 p.m. at Aptakisic Road and Twin Oaks Boulevard, police Sgt. Brian Spolar said.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as Eugene Lapir, was taken in serious condition to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was later pronounced dead, Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The driver of the car, which contained two other passengers, also was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released, said Buffalo Grove Deputy Police Chief Roy Bethge.

Aptakisic Road was closed from Route 83 to Brandywyn Lane for about four hours after the crash while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
