Warrenville cops hunting masked hotel bandit
Warrenville police are hunting for a man who robbed two hotels Monday afternoon while armed with a knife and wearing a mask from the movie "Scream."
Police said the man, dressed in all black and wearing the mask, entered the Hyatt House Hotel at 27554 Maecliff Drive around 1:40 p.m., displayed a knife, demanded money from the desk clerk and then fled with the cash.
A short time later, police said they responded to an alarm at the Residence Inn, 28500 Bella Vista Parkway, where they believe the same man, again armed with a knife, demanded money from the desk clerk. In that case, police said, the robber fled without receiving any cash.
No injuries were reported in either case.
Police on Tuesday said surveillance video shows the suspect is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 230 pounds. In both cases he was wearing a black hoodie, pants and gloves, along with black Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star gym shoes with white laces and rubber sole.
Anyone who has information about the robberies is asked to call Detective Sgt. Ken Dawson at (630) 393-2131.
