Schaumburg Hosts German Visitors Through Sister Cities Exchange

The Village of Schaumburg will host a group of five German visitors from October 20-29 as part of the village's Sister Cities Exchange.

The German visitors will stay with host families who have graciously offered to share their homes as part of the program. Visitors include Klaus Böhn (county official), Svenja Edler (village manager), Gunter Mücke (attorney), Dieter Ahrens (union official), and Jürgen Watermann (President of the Schaumburg German-American Society). All hail from various cities located in the County of Schaumburg, Germany.

Some of their activities will include tours of various village departments, the Schaumburg community, St. Peter Lutheran Church and School, as well as a visit to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel to view the Friendship Stone. The group will also visit Spring Valley, Schaumburg Township District Library, Trickster Art Gallery, Schaumburg Business Association and Komet of America, Inc.

"The village is very grateful to all those who have supported, hosted, and offered complementary or discounted service (Village Tavern, Lou Malnati's, El Meson, and Bonefish Grill) for these exchanges," said Kathleen Tempesta, Schaumburg's Director of Community Services. "It is with this type of community support these visitors are able to experience the very best that the village has to offer."

The Village of Schaumburg, Illinois, established its Sister Cities relationship with Schaumburg, Germany, more than 33 years ago. The County of Schaumburg, Germany, is a region encompassing approximately 213 square miles and is home to more than 165,000 residents. The region is part of the state of Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany.

The village became a Sister City with Schaumburg, Germany, to connect its residents with the village's heritage because many of the settlers of this area were from that region in Germany.
