Rolling Meadows teen charged as an adult in Arlington Heights shooting

A Rolling Meadows teen will be tried as an adult on charges he shot another teen in August.

Jonathan Argueta-Hernandez, 16, was ordered held on $750,000 bail Friday on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, a class X penalty punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Arlington Heights police received a report on Aug. 23 of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Algonquin Road. When police arrived, members of the Arlington Heights fire department were treating an 18-year-old male, who was found on a doorstep with a bullet wound in his buttocks, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom.

The 18-year-old was treated at Lutheran General Hospital and released.

An eyewitness identified Argueta-Hernandez as the shooter, Grissom said. Additionally the shooting was captured by video surveillance.

Rolling Meadows found a vehicle that prosecutors said Argueta-Hernandez used to get to the complex and recovered a silver .38 caliber revolver, which an eyewitness identified as the gun used in the shooting.

Police arrested Argueta-Hernandez Thursday, He next appears on court on Oct. 27.
