Elk Grove inks new deal with public works employees

Elk Grove Village and the union representing 36 public works department employees have signed a new 5-year contract, the longest ever between the two sides, officials said.

The agreement, retroactive to April 30, calls for wage increases of 2 percent this year, 2.25 percent next year, and 2.5 percent in each of the subsequent three years.

The union, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, represents Elk Grove Village maintenance workers, mechanics, utility systems operators and custodians. The agreement runs through April 30, 2021.

Elk Grove approved contracts with firefighters last February and police in October 2014.
