Elgin man sentenced for striking acquaintance with car

An Elgin man who prosecutors say intentionally struck an acquaintance with his car was sentenced to 30 months of probation plus the jail time he's already served.

Daniel Maccione, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to court records.

Police responding to a report of a crash June 20 on the 900 block of Bruce Drive in Elgin encountered the victim, who told them he and Maccione were sitting in Maccione's car when Maccione punched him. The victim exited the car and began walking away when he heard the vehicle accelerate. The man ran, and Maccione followed him in the car, struck him and left the scene, prosecutors said.

The man suffered scrapes and a sprained foot.

In addition to probation, Maccione was sentenced to 87 days at Cook County jail, which he served while the case was pending, and was ordered to pay $654 in fines.

Court records show the judge ordered Maccione serve the first year on intensive probation, which typically includes a curfew, community service, substance abuse counseling, if necessary, and other conditions the judge deems appropriate.
