Spraying kills more than mosquitoes

I would like to add to what Carol Findling said a few days ago about how mosquito spraying kills more than mosquitos. I, too, raise monarchs on a small scale.

Last year I raised 20, this year I have released two and with luck in a few days will release a third! After our last mosquito spraying a week or so ago, it was several days before I saw any bees, moths, butterflies or other insects in my garden which contains lots of milkweed and other pollen rich flowers.

We need to stop spraying and concentrate on where the mosquitos breed: Standing water in flower pots, bird baths, and storm sewers. I saw a very scary thing Sept. 2. We were downtown Glen Ellyn and while people were dining outdoors in a sidewalk cafe, the truck went down the street, spraying those toxic chemicals on their food. Knowing that this practice kills more than mosquitoes, I would have thrown my dinner out, right then and there. We need to change this practice before we do more damage to our insects.
