Competition, charters bad for education
Education is probably one of the most important topics of our time, if not the most important. Humanity, prosperity and even violence hinges on education.
Two words touted as good for education are competition and charter schools. Competition may be good in sports and business, but in education it inhibits sharing of good ideas and programs. Competition means a winner - and a loser. We cannot afford children being "losers."
Excellent schools could be rewarded when they "adopt" or help a failing school to succeed.
Charter schools go against our entire concept of public education. There are good and bad charters, just as there are excellent and failing schools.
No child must be a loser. No school should be allowed to fail. Every idea and resource must be spent on all children, not just the few that might win a lottery.
Competition, charters and privatization with public money are the worst things that can happen to our nation as a whole.
