Fringe Festival opens in Elgin

There is a little something for everyone at the Elgin Fringe Festival, which opened Thursday and continues through Sunday in the city's downtown area.

Now in its third year, the festival features dance, music, theater and visual arts at locations such as the Elgin Public House, First United Methodist Church, Imago, the Elgin Arts Showcase, Next Door Theatre, Blue Box Café and the Hemmens Cultural Center.

Erin Rehberg, artistic director and co-founder of the festival, said about 200 people will present 120 performances, the most in its history, in a variety of genres, including storyteller and Broadway musical performer David Boyle.

Saturday's events include the Family Fringe area between Hemmens and the city hall. There are bouncy houses and arts and crafts, along with magician/storyteller Cody Clark, the Olive Juice Theater, Robert Frosty Theater Company and Captain Ambivalent.
