Drury Lane announces 'Chicago,' 'Gin Game' for next season

A revitalized "Chicago" and the Pulitzer Prize-winning two-hander "The Gin Game" are among the shows Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace will revive as part of its 2017-2018 season.

The season opens with "Chicago," the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical about a pair of murderous showgirls vying for attention in 1920s Chicago. The show begins previews March 30, 2017, under artistic director William Osetek and choreographer Jane Lanier.

Next up is D.L. Coburn's "The Gin Game," starring John Reeger and Paula Scrofano, who have appeared in nearly 50 productions together over the course of their 45-year marriage. They play residents of a rundown nursing home who share their life stories over a series of card games. It begins previews June 22, 2017.

Drury Lane's regional premiere of "Rock of Ages," the jukebox musical comprised of 1980s rock songs by Journey, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar, begins previews Aug. 24, 2017. 2015 Joseph Jefferson Award winner Scott Weinstein directs the show about an aspiring rock star and a small-town girl trying to save Los Angeles' Sunset Strip from moralists who want to shut it down.

The taptastic musical "42nd Street" - featuring "We're in the Money" and "Lullaby of Broadway" - begins previews Oct. 26, 2017. Based on Bradford Ropes' novel and the 1933 film, the musical centers on a small-town hoofer from Pennsylvania who goes from chorus girl to star after an injury sidelines the leading lady of a Broadway-bound musical.

Drury Lane's season concludes with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's family-friendly "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." This retelling of the Bible story begins previews Jan. 18, 2018. Alan Souza directs.

Season subscriptions ranging from $145 to $175 go on sale in January at (630) 530-0111 or DruryLaneTheatre.com.
