Arlington Heights teen guilty of attempted armed robbery

An Arlington Heights teen pleaded guilty to an attempted armed robbery that occurred earlier this year in an apartment complex on the 1400 block of Rand Road, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Julio Ponce-Patino was sentenced to four years in prison. He received credit for 186 days in custody and must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Prosecutors say Ponce-Patino, 18, threatened a woman who approached him about a lost wallet she found. She thought the wallet may have belonged to him after seeing him pacing in front of the building.

Ponce-Patino threatened the woman with a knife but fled after she screamed, prosecutors said.
