Hoffman Estates celebrates German culture

Many of the same Northwest suburban residents who began the week at Schamburg's Septemberfest could end it with the Oktoberfest-style fun at Hoffman Estates' 11th annual Platzkonzert Germanfest.

Authentic German food, Bavarian beers and the band Centerfold kept the crowd entertained Friday evening at the Virginia Mary Hayter Village Green near the Sears Centre Arena in the Prairie Stone Business Park.

The festivities resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, with the Platzkonzert 5K Superhero Race on the Village Green at 5510 Prairie Stone Parkway.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero while walking, jogging or running. Top finishers will win gift cards and all participants will get a T-shirt.
