Girls golf: Sunny outcome for Libertyville

Libertyville's girls golf team beat both the inclement weather and Stevenson on Wednesday at Willow Glen Golf Club.

Simone Mikaelian had an even-par 20 for Libertyville (89), which won by 2 strokes in a North Suburban Conference match that was called after five holes due to lightning. The Wildcats improved to 6-2, including 3-1 in the NSC.

"If you know rain's coming, and you know your time on the course might be short, it's imperative that you get off to a good start and avoid any blowup holes," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. "We did a good job of that today. Colby Roberts had a key birdie on the par-3 fifth hole that propelled the team and made up some ground she had lost earlier in the match."

Stevenson (91) boasted medalist Joyce Bai, who was 1-under-par (19) through five holes.

Mundelein d. Waukegan: At Brae Loch Golf Club, the Mustangs (145) beat the Bulldogs (149) in a North Suburban Conference match that was called due to rain after five holes.

Benet d. Carmel: The host Redwings remained undefeated in dual matches with a 152-188 victory in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.

Benet's Lauren Beaudreau was the medalist with a 35.
