Pedestrian killed in Bartlett after fleeing hit-and-run

A man was struck Tuesday morning on Lake Street near Park Avenue after abandoning his vehicle, which had been involved in an earlier hit-and-run accident, Bartlett Police said in a news release.

The 40-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, later was pronounced dead at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, police said.

Police said a black 1991 GMC 1500 was eastbound on Lake Street near Oak Avenue about 6:20 a.m. when it was involved in a three-vehicle crash. The driver left the scene eastbound on Lake Street before he parked his vehicle on the median several blocks away near Park Avenue, police said.

The driver was struck by a white 2000 Ford E350 van traveling westbound on Lake Street when he attempted to flee the vehicle north across the westbound lanes of Lake Street, police said. The man driving the Ford was not injured.

The westbound lanes of Lake Street were closed between Park Avenue and Roma Jean Parkway for approximately three hours while police investigated. Any witnesses or anyone with additional information is asked to contact police at (630) 837-0846.
