Armed robber hits Elgin gas station

A man threatened a gas station store clerk at gunpoint while taking cash early Tuesday in Elgin, authorities said.

Elgin police responded to the armed robbery of the Speedway at Big Timber Road and McLean Boulevard about 2:45 a.m. The victim said a man walked in, displayed a handgun, and took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot, according to police.

The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'10" and 140 pounds.
