District maps used to shut voters out
I write to you as a longtime resident of Des Plaines and a concerned senior citizen. For more than 40 years, with a single exception, every time Illinois legislators have approached the task of redistricting they have reached an impasse.
As a consequence, the people of Illinois have been denied competitive elections. Unfortunately, today there are too many legislators who care more about their own self-interest than the will of the people they represent.
Seniors like myself feel the brunt of our broken political system. We feel the results of Springfield's deaf ear on our needs. Illinois has gone deeper and deeper into debt without any solutions in the foreseeable future.
We the voters should get to choose from candidates who will champion our needs rather than Springfield doing it for us. The current configuration of the state's district boundaries can make the difference between being heard or being locked out.
