Crystal Lake collision seriously injures SUV driver

An SUV driver was flown from the scene of a serious crash Monday afternoon in Crystal Lake, police say.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Route 176 and Briarwood Road, according to a news release.

Police believe a semitrailer truck heading west on Route 176 failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Briarwood Road and struck an SUV heading south on Briarwood.

The female driver, who was the SUV's only occupant, was flown from the scene with serious injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

The intersection remained closed through 7 p.m. Police say the investigation continues.
