Boomers best Slammers 2-1

Making his first start in two weeks, Kagen Hopkins pitched seven strong innings to lead the Schaumburg Boomers to a 2-1 win over the Joliet Slammers at Boomers Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Boomers broke the 0-0 tie in the third when Mark Nelson belted a solo home run to right. Joliet scored a run in the fifth on an RBI double to make it 1-1. Mike McClellan put the Boomers up for good in the seventh on an RBI double.

Hopkins allowed one run on three hits and striking out six. Evan Boyd threw a scoreless eighth and Dexter Price hurled a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
