Man hospitalized after attack at Batavia Riverwalk

A man was injured Monday night when he was attacked near the fountain at the Batavia Riverwalk.

Police said the victim was punched in the head. He was admitted to the intensive care unit at Delnor Hospital, but the injury is not considered life-threatening, according to detective Sgt. Shawn Mazza. The victim is 31 years old.

The attack happened around 10 p.m. The fountain is at the south end of the park near Houston Street.

Mazza said police believe the two men had a dispute, and may know each other. It was not a robbery.

"We don't think there is any cause for concern for the general public," Mazza said.

The offender is described as a white man, 40 to 50 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a gray beard. He had a dark-colored backpack, and was riding a dark-colored bicycle.

Witnesses or people who may know who the suspect is are asked to call the police investigations division at (630) 454-2500.
