Hoffman Estates man pleads guilty to December armed robbery

A 21-year-old Hoffman Estates man told a judge he thought his 11-year sentence was "a little harsh" for the armed robbery of two men who were sitting in a car in the 500 block of Edgemont Lane last December.

Jonathan Kazior pleaded guilty to the class X felony Monday. He must serve at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. Kazior received credit for 250 days in custody and was also fined $714.

Prosecutors said Kazior was with a teenage co-defendant who approached the car's driver at about 11 p.m. Dec. 1, showed a gun and demanded money and the man's cellphone.

Cook County assistant state's attorney Kristin Piper said when the man refused, Kazior pulled out a knife, demanded money and reached into the car and grabbed the man's cellphone.

Kazior told Cook County Judge Marc Martin he'd hoped for more leniency from prosecutors.

"But I believe it's the best offer," Kazior said, thanking Martin and his attorney, Cook County Assistant Public Defender Anne Dyes.

Kazior could have faced a minimum of 21 years had his case gone to trial, prosecutors said.
