Will GOP speak up when election ends?
I have mixed feelings about the 2016 election. On one hand I can't wait for it to end, but on the other, I so enjoy the rancor it's causing within the Republican Party.
Traditional grass-roots GOP'ers are actually badmouthing their newly-nominated prince of darkness and despair. They are quick to point out that he is not one of their own and yet the party enabled, even encouraged, his candidacy.
The hole that he crawled out of has a deep root system that will remain in tact long after the likes of Donald J Trump has left the political stage.
The "party of Lincoln" has chosen to be obstructionists rather than bi-partisans, they find liberalism almost as dangerous as radical Islam and they perpetually embrace gun rights while demonizing gender equality.
Is it any wonder that a Trump would triumph over a more traditional field of conservative candidates? And is it any wonder that party loyalists would find his act not only repulsive but a genuine threat to our democracy?
But will these same clear-thinking people speak up once the election is over? Will they prioritize the critical importance of never allowing it to ever happen again - at least on their watch?
The whole world may not be watching. but surely the American people will be!
