Plans for seafood restaurant in Rosemont dropped

Plans for a seafood restaurant in Rosemont's entertainment district have been dropped after the owner withdrew from consideration, village officials said. Fahlstrom's Fresh Fish Market, the creation of Chicago restaurateur and actor Glenn Fahlstrom, was proposed for a new one-story, 6,000-square-foot building next to Muvico theater in MB Financial Park. Former Rosemont public safety superintendent Stephens dies

Donald E. Stephens II, 63, who served the village of Rosemont for more than 43 years, including a long tenure as its public safety superintendent, died Saturday morning, the village announced yesterday. "Stephens II was a tireless public servant whose legacy is one of professionalism and loyalty," the statement reads. "His strong leadership and determination will be everlasting in the department and the Village of Rosemont." Full story.

Naperville's India Day festival, parade celebrate culture

The second annual India Day Parade and Celebration brought more than 15,000 people to Naperville yesterday for a milelong parade, Indian food and a free concert by popular Indian singer Sunidhi Chauhan. "We wanted to get more involved, more integrated," said Viral Shah, treasurer of event organizer Naperville Indian Community Outreach. Simone Biles' golden run in Rio is picking up steam. The 19-year-old superstar added a third gold medal to her haul yesterday, easily capturing the women's vault final. Biles, who helped the "Final Five" to team gold and also dominated the all-around competition last week, averaged 15.966 on her two vaults yesterday to become the first American woman to win the event at the Olympics. Left fielder Christian Yelich threw out pinch-runner Carlos Sanchez trying to score from second base on a two-out single in the ninth inning, and the Miami Marlins beat the White Sox 5-4 yesterday.
